A series of fortunate events

It was just one of those days.  You know the ones.  The ones where everything just comes together.  And I don't mean BIG things, just a small series of events that bring a bounce to your step, a grin on your face, and a lightness to your voice.

Walking at 6:30 AM in my neighbourhood, a hoody covering my head to block the wind, my camera hanging from its strap around my neck, my Ipod tuned to Switchfoot, the rising sun glistening off the urban pond, I turned into a corner of the path and saw someone I'd recently been thinking of.  He stood in his yard.  So this is where he lives, I thought to myself.  A grin on his face, he approached me and we talked,  marvelling how just the other day he discussed me with someone. And here I was. I have walked this path many, many times, and never seen him until that day.  Perfection.

Explaining why he was out so early: "I had to drive my son to the pool for his life-guard job." Really? I questioned.  My daughter is also a life-guard but not working presently. The pool just lost a lot of full-time staff, he said.  I must tell her. (I'm crossing my fingers she applies for this--summer time and teenagers---you gotta keep them busy, if you know what I mean!)

On the pond, geese and ducks swam, and red-winged black birds flew above them. I've always wanted to capture a shot of those black birds, I let my friend know. So far they had alluded me.

Forty-five minutes later, having left my new friend, I ducked from a low flying red-winged black bird. I honestly thought he was going to hit me in the forehead. He then perched himself on a tree just above me. And didn't move from the noise of my clicking camera. Perfection.

Later, writing in a cafe, one of my characters sung to the radio.  What was he singing? The music from the cafe caught my attention. A Christian contemporary song in a popular coffee shop? That is unusual. Then the line: "Broken hearts become brand new, that's what faith can do." It fit perfectly into the the scene I was writing. Perfection.

Do you see your perfect moments today?

A great picture! I have not had perfection in awhile but wait, I think finding my story sort of feels that way.

Oh, I love days like that!

Your red-wing picture brought back fond memories. We often saw them when I was growing up.

Love this shot, and the "how you got it" story! :) My day might not be perfect, but it's not bad either. Looking forward to a perfect weekend.

Happy weekend to you!

P.S. My daughter was a lifeguard in her teens; I remember running her to some early shifts. :)

i always see and enjoy my perfect moments. i'm finally at that age where i really appreciate the little things in life...

and those red winged black birds do get awfully close to humans when a nest is near by....it's just them being protective :)
