Yup..Another Goal Setting Post!

“What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals.” (Zig Ziglar)

I know you have probably been bombarded with goals and new year's resolution posts already! But several of my friends have been asking how I do my goals, so thought I would just blog about it even though I'm sure I am one of many, many others who are doing the same! Maybe you'll gleam something new....

First step: I write "End" Goals. These are yearly and long-term goals.

Important Note: When writing out my goals, I have to continually ask the question,

Am I serving God or am I serving myself?

To help me do this, I write the following statement on the top of the page before writing my goals.

Living Water-God is working through me

Then I decide on a word for the year. My word last year was Connecting. Next I create my Year Goals keeping in mind my End Goals and my word for the year. My End Goals are broken down into 7 categories-Spiritual, Relationships, Career, Writing, Photography, Fitness, and Contribution

Then at the beginning of each month, I read my End Goals for the current year and, keeping in mind my word for the year, write specific goals in each category for that particular month.

I use Microsoft One Note to set up my goals and then transfer the documents to Dropbox so I can see the goals on my Ipad and my Android phone whenever I like.

Recently I read L. Diane Wolfe's Overcoming Obstacles with Spunk. The entire book is excellent, giving clear direction on how to create and acheive your goals. I highly recommend it.  If you would like to set up your goals using a Smart Phone App, I recommend the Goal Setting Workshop App for Iphone or Ipad. Also this Link will lead you to more Goal Apps for the Apple and Android market.

Next post I'll share how I did last year with my goals, what I learned you NEED to do to stay on track, and I will share my word for 2012.

Do you have a word for 2012?

I love your idea of a theme word for the year. I'll have to do some brainstorming.

When it comes to a new year's goals, I ask myself what The Father would say an area I needed to grow in would be. Sometimes I need to see things from His Perspective to know which direction is wisest to take. Have a great 2012, Roland

Nice to meet you!

I LOVE that Lynn! I need to think of a good word. Plus putting it on your ipad and iphone. That is brilliant! Thanks so much for sharing.

I love reading about how others set goals. You are so organized! I bet you accomplish a lot more that way. Perhaps Organization should be my word for 2012!

I never even thought of having a word until a different post I read this morning. And now yours. It sounds interesting but I think my word might keep changing. lol
I love the quote you posted. I might copy it somewhere. lol

Hi Lynn -

I hope you'll give us an update on your progress. :)

I haven't set goals for 2012 because I'm praying for direction with my writing. My ongoing goal has always been to be a connector between believers and remains unchanged.

Blessings,
Susan :)

Wow, you ARE organized! I have mine on a 3x5 card in my Bible, so I can see them every morning. My word for this year is WISDOM.

Jen

This is excellent, Lynn! You're way too organized for me. I really like the idea of keeping the monthly goals in front of you - will definitely check out those apps!

Love the Zig Zigler quote! Looking forward to your next post! God bless!

This is great. My word for 2011 was "Assurance." This year it's a phrase, "Be Still."

Wow, this is awesome information, Lynn! Sounds like you've got quite the process to develop your goals. But we'd never get anywhere if we didn't have a place to go, right? :)

You're so organized about it, that's great! :) I'm horribly unorganized. :) And a word for 2012? Hmm... I'll have to get back to you, I'm not sure yet. :)

Hmmm! A word. Just one? I'll need to think about that one! Happy 2012.

a theme word is a neat idea. providing inspiration is so key. i wonder about who we serve. i do think it's possible to serve only ourselves and not the greater good, or god. and i think it's possible to serve what we think of as god, but not ourselves, so that we suffer, and believe the suffering is what god wants, which i don't believe. i would like to find the overlapping flap in which i serve myself and god and there's no distinction. very thoughtful post.
